Last year we had the opportunity to visit Seattle and the beautiful area north of Seattle, including a cool little town called Everett, Washington. While there we happened upon the home of Funko, a company that manufactures pop culture bobble heads and collectibles. We loved walking around the headquarters finding all our favorite bands, movie characters and famous figures turned into fun collectible items. I ended up with an Elastigirl figure on my keychain. Our family has always loved The Incredibles movie and since I am the mom, Elastigirl is naturally my favorite. Elastigirl's superpower is the ability to stretch and be flexible. This last week it became official: I am nothing like Elastigirl. #incredibles #elastigirl
In my last post I announced that we had found our first destination. It is a great story and we were so excited to go to an amazing-looking private campground in North Georgia. Earlier this week I decided to call and confirm that they were still expecting us. I asked for the woman that had been so helpful just a month ago and was told that she is no longer working at the campground. What?!!! I was directed to the owner who had never heard of us. I won't go into the details of that conversation but suffice it to say, I kinda freaked out.
After I had time to calm down and talk to Jeff about my conversation, I emailed my contact at the GA Dept. of Natural Resources and inquired about our background checks. We had not heard anything and had actually given up on a state park for now. Within five minutes I received a response stating that there was an opening at Unicoi State Park. Yep, the exact park where we originally hoped to work. By the next day we had a new job and a new destination. We are still a little sad about the other place because it sounded amazing and we thought it would be really good for our girls, but it looks like I just had my first lesson in Full-time RV'ing and Workamping 101 - Be flexible. #Fulltimerving #workamping #camphost #georgiastateparks #helengeorgia
The hardest part in all of this is helping my kids through these rough spots. As much as I believe in what we are doing and that it will contribute to a broader and more realistic worldview for them, my knee-jerk response as a mom is to protect them and make it seem like everything is perfect and safe. But they aren't fooled. They see and hear everything and I have to figure out how to show them that things do not always work out the way we thought they would. I guess in the meantime they will see me and their dad as we learn and grow and stretch through these next few months and the years to come.
I'm going to keep this one short. We are having a garage sale over the next two days and then we move into the RV the next day. So much to do and so much stuff to unload. We can't wait to be done with this part of the #dowdsizing process.
